Yelena Casale is a best-selling, award-winning author of urban fantasy and paranormal romance. Born in Kiev, Ukraine, she moved to New York at thirteen. Being very curious, she has been a devoted reader and writer since childhood. As a 2nd degree black belt and instructor in Shotokan karate, an avid traveler, and history and art enthusiast, she weaves universal themes with martial arts philosophies into her stories. She lives with her amazing, supportive husband and the best Siamese cats. In her spare time, she reads, paints (a lot!), watches cool shows on TV and tries to get more sleep.
Like the samurai of the old, as well as the ultimate Renaissance man and Yelena's favorite historical figure, Leonardo da Vinci, she believes that nothing is greater than mastery of oneself.
Unofficial bio:
I was born in Kiev, Ukraine and came to New York when I was 13, which, I believe, gave me a great perspective into two very different cultures. Being very curious and inquisitive, I’ve always been an avid reader with a wide range of literary interests. Writing has been my passion since I first learned to write, and it only grew over time. I’m especially fond of reading and writing urban fantasy and paranormal romance. The world of vampires, shifters, angels and demons is a wonderful way to escape the mundane and let my imagination run wild.
I have two degrees from New York University, and have spent over a decade learning from New York City's diverse atmosphere.
In my ideal world, I would be a full time writer and painter and travel as much as possible, experiencing various cultures. Learning through travel is an important part of my life. Since I don't live in that ideal world (yet), I do the writing and the traveling (with my amazing, super suppportive husband) outside of my day job.
Martial Arts has always been my other love through the years. I have a second degree black belt in Shotokan Karate (a traditional Japanese karate style) and help teach at my husband’s dojo (karate school). In my books, you will see many influences from martial arts, not only in the fight scenes, but in the philosophies and motives of the characters throughout the stories.
